In order to create a twist or barb edge, adjacent pairs of wire ends must be twisted together in a tight helix of 1-1/2 machine turns, which is equivalent to 3 full twists, before the wire ends are angled cut.
The length of the wire ends after the twist must be at least 1/4 inch. For fabric with a mesh size of less than 2 in., this kind of selvage is not employed.
